Tweeter operates a chain of regional electronics
stores offering mid- to high-end products including home stereo
systems, camcorders and big-screen televisions.
In fiscal 2004, revenues were $774 million
with a loss of $18.1 million.
The company announced in April it would
close 19 underperforming stores but is still opening several
new stores this year.
Tweeter now operates 158 stores under the
Tweeter, hifi buys, Sound Advice, Showcase Home Entertainment
and Hillcrest High Fidelity names in the New England, Las Vegas,
Texas, Southern California, Mid-Atlantic, Chicago, Southeast,
Florida and Phoenix markets.
Tweeter was founded in 1972 by current
company Chairman Sandy Bloomberg. The company went public in
July, 1998.
