Northeastern University is a private research
university, offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and
graduate programs. There are schools in medicine, nursing, pharmacy,
engineering, law, computer science, criminal justice and business
administration.
Northeastern's main campus is situated
on 67 acres in Boston's cultural district, the Avenue of the
Arts, between the Museum of Fine Arts and Symphony Hall. It consists
of 41 academic and administrative buildings and 28 residence
facilities.
In 2008, there were 15,339 undergraduate students enrolled full-time and 2,923 were freshmen. There were 5,410 graduate students.
The university has 1,330 full- and part-time faculty.
Tuition for 2008-09 school year is $33,320 per year with an additional $11,510 for room and board plus fees of $649.
Northeastern was founded in 1898 as a part-time
law school by the YMCA. Demand grew and more subjects were introduced.
Northeastern College was incorporated in 1916.
